De-integration Manual

The report of the National Academy of Sciences “Revitalizing NASA’s Suborbital Program:  Advancing Science, Driving Innovation and Developing Workforce” found that suborbital science missions were absolutely critical to building an aerospace workforce capable of meeting the needs of current and future human and robotic space exploration.  The purpose of this manual is to assure operational experience and technology development for the emerging commercial space industry workforce by providing procedures which ensure success of sub-orbital launches. Procedures in this manual will:

· strengthen the speed and quality of data return for NASA and the commercial space industry

· reduce shipping costs

· reduce data damage post-flight

· provide industry a look at in-field de-integration using non-professionals as part of a lower cost approach to space services

· expand the use of commercial space applications for public benefit and increase access to space
